How does the plethysmograph work?

Each wave (see image) corresponds to a heartbeat and the wave amplitude corresponds to the amount of blood detected. If the wave amplitude is low, this means that your blood perfusion is too low for a reliable read. You should retake your measurement and make sure that your finger is positioned right under the LED lights.

  • Any movement can cause the device to reset its readings. If you are in the middle of exercising, we advise to take readings during resting phases while the body is not mobile. If you have finished, wait 10-15 minutes before taking a reading.

  • The digital pulse oximeter is able to measure SpO2 between 70% and100%, and pulse rate between 30 and 250 beats per minute (bpm).

  • The battery icon will display the low power indicator. Please replace the batteries.

  • It is normal and natural for your SpO2 and pulse rate to fluctuate as the amount of arterial blood pulses and changes with each heartbeat. A ±3 fluctuation in your SpO2 is considered normal.

  • To turn off your device, simply remove your finger from the finger chamber. The pulse oximeter will power off automatically within 8-10 seconds.
